From the Author

I started my career in brokerage trading with Fidelity Investments over
10 years ago. I subsequently moved into the field of commercial
banking where I worked in various roles for FleetBoston Financial,
Cambridge Trust Company, Citizens Financial, and
Boston Private
Bank. During my career, I participated in structuring, underwriting,
and approval of over $500 million in new loan obligations as well
as loan renewals. My customers include companies of less than $1
million in revenue and some borrowers that are publicly traded
companies and well-recognized names. I also evaluated quality of
over 1 billion in commercial loans to companies throughout the U.S.

While still a commercial banker, I found my passion in coaching
small business owners on how to secure loans financing and
manage financially successful companies. I have written articles for
Inc.com and the RMA Journal. My work has been cited and
published in many professional publications as well as such
well-recognized media as LA Times, the Metro, Banker &
Tradesman, to name a few. Last but not least, I teach
seminars to
small business owners on various financial and management issues.

I have enjoyed a rewarding career as a banker. What made it
particularly memorable is an opportunity to work with
privately-owned businesses and serve their financing needs. I
worked for very large as well as small community banks,
experiencing first hand how they fulfill the financing needs of those
borrowers. Unfortunately, I saw again and again smaller loan
requests denied because the owners of those companies did not
know how to present their requests in the best possible light.

I love what I do, I do it well, and I created this book to help you
get the loans your business needs.

One referral at a time

You probably know as well as I do that a large source of sales
for small businesses comes from word-of-mouth referrals.
Individuals refer their friends and even strangers to companies
they have had outstanding experiences with. Isn't it time for small
businessmen and women to do the same?

Next time another small company provides you with a great
service or sells you a high quality product, make a commitment to
refer at least one customer to that company. Rest assured that
many other business owners will learn to do the same as long as
your own services and products are worth the mention. You will
support and grow your small business by supporting others. I call
it "
one referral at a time".
